Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Cory Wilbanks, a native of Walnut, Mississippi, received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology and Psychology from the University of Mississippi in 2013. Following his undergraduate studies, he received his Master of Science in Nursing degree and Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) certification from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in 2015. He began his Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) education in 2015 at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center and received his DNP degree with a concentration in both Adult Gerontology – Acute Care and Family Nursing practice in 2018. He is board certified as both an AG-ACNP and FNP. He worked as a staff nurse at Methodist University Hospital on a stroke/medical-surgical unit, serving as rotating charge and preceptor to nursing students and new hires. He was founder and chair of his unit’s Shared Governance Committee and a Sepsis Champion for the hospital. In 2017, he joined the UTHSC BSN program as adjunct clinical faculty and became full-time faculty at the rank of Assistant Professor in 2019. He is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society, Beta Theta-At-Large, American Association of Nurse Practitioners, American Nurses Association, and was elected as a UT Alumni Board Member in 2016. He is an active member of TNA District 1. In September 2019, he was nominated as a Top Educator in America. He was recently nominated for the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Faculty in 2020. In 2021, he was chosen as a TN 40 Under 40: Tennessee Rising Star Nurse Leader.
