What's New in 2022

QuestionPro will be retired on May 31, 2022

  • Don’t worry! Qualtrics and REDCap will continue to be available.
  • Now is a good time to start transitioning your surveys to Qualtrics, as things start to slow down towards the end of the year.
  • Be sure to submit a Qualtrics Account Request if you haven’t used Qualtrics in the past.
  • To learn more about your survey options, check out the Survey Software category of the TechConnect knowledge base.
VolShare to SharePoint Migration
  • ITS is in the process of retiring the hardware that houses VolShare/Vol2Share/UTDrive. In preparation, we have developed a strategy to help you move your data/documents to an even better storage platform! Most data/documents can be stored on Microsoft SharePoint. ITS is assisting departments in moving their documents from VolShare to SharePoint. There are numerous benefits to moving to SharePoint, including improved collaboration features, no need for VPN, the ability to share documents with internal and external colleagues, and so much more!
  • Visit VolShare to SharePoint Migration KB article to learn more.
  • Check out the related articles to get started with your migration. Or, submit a request for assistance by visiting the VolShare Retirement Consultation and Support.
  • Visit Data Storage/Document Management to learn more about available storage options.
Telephone Moves to Voice over IP with RingCentral
  • Over the course of 2022, ITS will be replacing the desktop telephones on campus with a newer technology, called RingCentral.
  • Watch for details!
Duo Coming to Blackboard and B-Line SimCapture on 12/21

Starting Tuesday, Dec. 21, logging in to Blackboard and B-Line SimCapture when not connected to the UTHSC network, UTK network, or VPN will require use of Duo. This is the same Duo you are already using when logging in to Microsoft 365, Banner, and other UT systems and will look and work the same.

Please note users who are connected to the UTHSC or UTK networks in Memphis, Knoxville, or Nashville will NOT be Duo-challenged.

Visit the TechConnect IT service site or call the Service Desk at 901.448.2222 if you need assistance with Duo.

Getting a New Phone for the Holidays?

If you’re planning to get a new phone soon, here are some recommendations for a smoother experience setting up your new device while staying connected to your campus resources

Back Up Your Contacts

If you have ever had your phone die, you know the importance of backing up your contacts, and this also applies when you get a new phone.

Restore Duo

There is a UTK OIT article to help you restore or reactive Duo on a new phone. UTHSC IT also has a TechConnect article on installing the mobile Duo app.

If you need further assistance, give our Service Desk a call at 901.448.2222.

Add a Favorite

Do you have a task that you do from time to time, but you do it so infrequently that you forget how to do it?
For example, maybe you forget how to turn your Out of Office replies on in Outlook?

Did you know that you can make this a favorite article in TechConnect?

When looking at an article you want to make a favorite, look to the right and click the Add to Favorites button.

To see your favorite articles, look at the top menu for My Favorites, click on it, and see your list. And, if you need to remove a favorite, click the Remove button.

Move Files/Folders from OneDrive to SharePoint

It is easy to move files or folders from OneDrive to SharePoint.

You may be thinking, "Why would I want to do this?" And, the answer is because OneDrive is mainly used for personal files, files that only you need to see, or files that aren't ready for public consumption yet.

But, once a file is ready to be shared, learn how to do that with five easy steps in the Move Files/Folders from OneDrive to SharePoint article.

Getting into a Zoom Meeting

Okay, after a year and a half, it may not be exactly new, but we still get calls from people experiencing problems getting into Zoom.

There are usually two main reasons you cannot get into a Zoom meeting.

You’re the Meeting Host

If you are hosting a meeting with non-UT guestsorinfrequent Zoom users, you may want to uncheck the authentication. This option is checked by default for additional HIPAA security features and requires that the participants be logged in using the “Sign in with SSO” option. If you are hosting a meeting with non-UT guests, you may want to uncheck the authentication by selecting Schedule Meeting on your Zoom home page and turning on Waiting Rooms to still have security for your meeting.

Also, be sure to remind your UTHSC attendees they must log in using the SSO option.

You’re a UTHSC Attendee

Make sure you sign in using the SSO option and not with an email and a password. Learn more about how to sign in to Zoom with SSO.

SPSS Statistics

SPSS Statistics does a broad range of statistics and graphics, and it is easy to learn and use. It is also easy to transfer data from SPSS into R or SAS to access any esoteric analyses. While most users prefer the SPSS easy-to-use GUI interface, advanced users can take advantage of its programming language. The SPSS programming language is used to automate repetitive tasks, leave an audit trail of the steps you took, and get the package to do something that it was not originally designed to do.

Learn more about SPSS on UTK's Research Software website. Learn when to use it, where to run it, how to learn, and where to get help.

How to Report Phishing

Tis the season to be phishing! Did you get a secretive email from your director saying they need to speak to you but don't call, reply to the email? Did you receive an email that looks like it is from our service desk, but something isn't quite right? Or maybe you got an email asking you to download a file to fill out, but it was from a colleague that doesn't usually ask you to do this.

These emails are known as phishing - someone is trying to collect personal and financial information or infect your machine with malware and viruses.

So what do you do when you receive this type of email? Two things:

  1. Don't reply or download anything.
  2. Forward the email to abuse@uthsc.edu.

By forwarding the phishing email to abuse@uthsc.edu, you are helping our Cybersecurity team investigate the phishing attempt and keep us all safe from future phishing.

Kyle Joyner

In each issue, we feature one of our amazing ITS team members. We learn more about Kyle Joyner with our Customer Service Support team in this segment.

What is your role and how long have you been in ITS at UTHSC? ITS Service desk and roughly a month of service.

What is a day in the life of Kyle like? After coming home from work, I jump straight into classes for my A+ Certification. If I’m not doing schoolwork, you can find me reading books, gaming with friends, or going to sporting events.

What is your favorite thing about working at UTHSC? My favorite thing about working at UT is the environment! Everyone is so welcoming and helpful. I haven’t been here very long, but I do feel valued as an employee. Which I really enjoy.

What’s something most people don’t know about you? I’m pretty much an open book, but I love The Lord of the Rings books/movies, and I’m really into Marvel Movies as well.
