Course Description
Lasers are becoming increasingly common in the practice of dentistry. Though a variety of lasers are available, induction in the practice of lasers is usually through diode lasers due to their versatility, cost and relatively gentle learning curve. They are used in a number of procedures, but not limited to Antimicrobial and Bactericidal, Crown Lengthening, Dental Hypersensitivity, Depigmentation, Frenectomy, Gingivectomy/Tuberosity reduction, Periimplantitis, Photobiomodulation. However, it is important to know the correct techniques and principles before incorporating these in daily dental practice. This course strives to provide a basic know-how of the use of diode lasers along with their potential pitfalls.
Course Objectives
- Introduce the various uses of laser in dentistry
- Introduce the fundamentals of laser physics
- Introduce the use of diode lasers for procedures used in the daily practice of dentistry.
- Introduce detrimental effects caused by use of lasers.
- Introduce laser safety in dental practice setting.
