The Division of Surgical Oncology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center has grown significantly in the last few years.  By expanding the faculty we have been able to provide increasingly specialize care for our cancer patients.  While we are all capable of caring for the broad scope of surgical problems that are involved in cancer, we now have faculty primarily dedicated to specific areas in surgical oncology.  Working with the faculty in our division, a fellow will experience focused surgical patient care in breast, melanoma, sarcoma, colorectal, gastrointestinal, hepatobiliary and endocrine oncology.  On the planned rotations outside of the general surgical oncology division, the fellow will experience thoracic oncology, gynecologic oncology, and radiation oncology.  There are also opportunities for learning in interventional radiation oncology and pathology during the clinical rotations.  Research will be occurring throughout the fellowship with clinical, translational and basic science options and a dedicated 6 month research block in the first half of the second year.

Memphis is geographically positioned such that the closest major medical center is almost 200 miles away.  This makes our center a regional provider of cancer care for Tennessee, Mississippi, Arkansas, Missouri and Kentucky.  Fellows will experience a large volume of clinical activity and see a wide variety of oncology patients.  Our program provides an outstanding opportunity to train in surgical oncology for any surgeon pursuing board certification in Complex General Surgical Oncology.
