After graduating from Christian Brothers College, Dr. Mangiante completed medical school and his surgical residency at the University of Tennessee. Following a Trauma/Critical Care Fellowship in Baltimore at the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Services, he returned to Memphis to help organize and develop the Presley Memorial Trauma Center. In addition to trauma, his academic interests have focused on medical education as evidenced by roles as Surgery Clerkship Director, Chief of Surgery at the VA Hospital and twenty years as Program Director for the Surgical Residency in Memphis. Dr Mangiante is currently Deputy Chair of the Department of Surgery and Executive Associate Dean of Graduate Medical Education (GME). In an attempt to provide physician specialty manpower for the state of Tennessee, his GME position coordinates 75 residencies statewide involving over 900 residents in training. He is married to Carol and has two children, Anne and Gene.
