Psychiatry Residency Curriculum

Summary of Training Program

PGY-1 Residency Year *

  • Internal Medicine or Pediatrics: 4 months
  • Inpatient Psychiatry: 6 months
  • Neurology: 2 months

* 1/2 day per week long term VA med-psych outpatient clinic

PGY-2 Residency Year *

  • Adult Inpatient Psychiatry: 6 months
  • Private Hospital Inpatient and Emergency Psychiatry: 2 months
  • Neuropsychiatry: 2 months
  • Adult Chemical Dependency or Consultation and Liaison (including Emergency Psychiatry): 2 months

* 2 hours per week long-term outpatient psychotherapy, 1/2 day per week long term VA med-psych outpatient clinic

PGY-3 Residency Year

12 months Outpatient Psychiatry, including VA Mental Hygiene Clinic and family therapy with children and adolescents.

PGY-4 Residency Year *

  • Adult Substance Abuse and/or Consult and Liaison Psychiatry including Emergency Psychiatry: 4 months
  • Child/Adolescent: 2 months
  • Geropsychiatry: 1 month
  • Community Mental Health: 1 month
  • Elective: 4 months

* 2 hours per week long-term outpatient psychotherapy
