Violence prevention initiatives
Family Violence Databook - The databook is a composite description of family violence in Memphis and Shelby County based on data obtained from the following individual family violence projects conducted within the Department of Preventive Medicine: Tennessee incident based reporting system (TIBRS) project, Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) project, Intimate partner violence needs assessment project, a family violence health care provider survey, and a community wide Intimate partner violence phone survey.
Campus Grant Program - The Campus grant is designed to Reduce Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, and Stalking on the UTHSC campus. A comprehensive, coordinated responses to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking has been developed in conjunction with community-based nonprofit victim advocacy organizations and local criminal justice/legal agency in which protocols, policies, and programs are developed that that ensure victim safety, offender accountability, and the prevention of crime.
Post Coital DNA Recovery (NIJ grant; Speck PI) has been designed to establish a time frame for DNA recovery after sexual intercourse. The recovery time period has substantial implications for identification and prosecution of sexual offenders.
Supporting Evidence-Based Home Visitation Programs to Prevent Child Maltreatment - The Shelby County Nurse Family Partnership Collaborative is a child abuse reduction, early home visitation initiative in Shelby County that utilizes home visitation and community-wide infrastructure development to improve both child and family outcomes.
