Division of Biostatistics
The Division of Biostatistics is part of the Department of Preventive Medicine at UTHSC. We are a group of seven faculty, one postdoctoral scholar, and four staff members.
Our mission is to improve health through the rigorous application of statistical science to biomedical research.
There are three parts to our mission: training, research, and service.
Our faculty members teach biostatistics courses in the College of Graduate Health Sciences in the Epidemiology program and Biomedical Sciences program. Our faculty regularly serve on the committees of masters and doctoral students. We are also participating in a new data science doctoral program starting next fall jointly with UTK, ORNL, and UTC.
Our faculty research interests include clinical trials, observational studies, statistical genetics, health services research, and statistical computing. We contribute to research teams as co-investigatord. We are also engaged in methodological research in several areas. Please see individual faculty biographies for more information.
Division faculty contribute to the research community as associate editors of journals. We also play an active role in the Western Tennessee Chapter of the American Statistical Association (WTASA), and have served as office bearers. We also play a major role in the Biostatistics, Epidemiology, and Research Design (BERD) consulting services run by iRISE.
