Department of Plastic Surgery

Established in 1911, the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) is the education and research hub of one of the nation's oldest and largest medical centers. The Independent Plastic Surgery Program has been accredited since 1957 and received continued accreditation during the last RRC site visit in March 2016. The Integrated Plastic Surgery Program has been accredited since 2015 and received continued accreditation with outcomes during the RRC site visit in August 2016.

Our program is committed to outstanding clinical care, education and research. Our faculty offer compassionate, cutting-edge patient care consistent with the latest medical evidence, as only a top academic health science center can provide. We are fortunate to have faculty who are renowned in their fields and widely acclaimed for their expertise. Our professors educate the next generation of plastic surgeons with the best available scientific and clinical knowledge. We are supported by a talented administrative, clinical and research staff that is committed to excellence.

The mission of the Department of Plastic Surgery Training Program is to make available the highest quality care in plastic surgery to patients in need, to provide the most inclusive level of education and best training program for residents, students, and fellows in plastic surgery, as outlined by the Residency Review Committee guidelines, and to further the science of plastic surgery through research.

The aim of our residency program is to train residents in the art and science of plastic surgery through a complete and well-rounded balance of organized education, research, and clinical experience.

The ultimate goal is to produce excellent, ethical plastic surgeons capable of managing a wide spectrum of problems who function at a superior level of competence throughout their careers, become leaders in our field, and further the course of our specialty.
