WALL HONORED BY AAMC GROUP ON STUDENT AFFAIRS

 

 

            Memphis, Tennessee (Nov. 12, 2004) – Hershel “Pat” Wall, MD, professor and associate dean for admissions and student affairs at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC), was recently recognized by the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) with the Group on Student Affairs (GSA) Exemplary Service Award. Initiated in 2003, the honor recognizes a current or former GSA representative who has demonstrated exemplary service to the GSA.

            A pediatrician by training, Dr. Wall’s first service to the AAMC and GSA was as a member of the National Task Force on Student Retention from 1985 to 1987. He also served as chair for the GSA’s Southern Region from1986 to 1987 and as GSA national chair from 1993 to 1994.

            Since the early 1980s, Dr. Wall has been a national leader in the Aid for the Impaired Medical Students (AIMS) program. In 2000, he was honored as “Pediatrician of the Year” by the Tennessee Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Tennessee Pediatrics Society.

Additionally, he has received numerous UTHSC awards for outstanding teaching, distinguished public and community service, and student mentorship.
