Memphis, Tenn. (June 27, 2008) – Today University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) Chancellor Hershel P. Wall, MD, announced that William R. Frey, PhD, dean of the College of Allied Health Sciences, will retire from his position in December.  Dr. Frey was appointed dean of the college in January and had served as interim dean since May 2005.

“Bill has been a pivotal force in the expansion of our six Allied Health Sciences programs,” observed Chancellor Wall.  “The entire Health Science Center family will miss his wise counsel, insightful eloquence and good humor.  We wish him well in his retirement.”  An interim dean for the college will be announced prior to Dean Frey’s departure and a search committee will be formed to begin the selection process for a new dean.

As the flagship statewide academic health system, the University of Tennessee Health Science Center is focused on a four-tier mission of education, research, clinical care and public service, all in support of a single goal: to improve the health of Tennesseans.  Offering a broad range of postgraduate training opportunities, the main campus is located in Memphis and includes six colleges: Allied Health Sciences, Dentistry, Graduate Health Sciences, Medicine, Nursing and Pharmacy.  UTHSC has additional College of Medicine and College of Pharmacy campuses in Knoxville and a College of Medicine campus in Chattanooga.  For more information, visit www.uthsc.edu.
