Ophthalmologists Join Staff of UT’s Hamilton Eye Institute and UT Medical Group

 

Memphis, Tennessee (July 1, 2004) -- Several ophthalmologists have joined the Hamilton Eye Institute at the University of Tennessee.  As faculty, they will be practicing at the new Hamilton Eye Institute, as well as at the UT Medical Group offices on Wolf River Parkway in Germantown.

 

Roderick N. Hargrove, MD:

 

Dr. Hargrove is a graduate of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine.  He did his internship at Methodist Hospital in Memphis, followed by an ophthalmology residency he completed in 2002 at the State of New York, Downstate Medical Center. In June 2004, Dr. Hargrove completed a two-year fellowship in oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery done jointly with the University of Tennessee and Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

Barrett Haik, MD, Hamilton Professor and chair of the Department of Ophthalmology, commented, “He was an outstanding fellow, and we are very pleased that Dr. Hargrove has chosen to return to Memphis as an assistant professor of ophthalmology.” He will practice jointly at the University of Tennessee and the Veterans Administration Hospital, specializing in oculoplastic and reconstructive surgery.

Professionally, Dr. Hargrove is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and the American Medical Association.

 

Mary Ellen Hoehn, MD:

 

Dr. Hoehn graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Medicine and stayed in Memphis to complete her ophthalmology residency.  Dr. Hoehn then completed a highly regarded pediatric ophthalmology fellowship at the Manhattan Eye, Ear, and Throat Hospital.  She has been practicing pediatric ophthalmology on the staff of Montefiore Medical Center in New York. 

“We are very pleased that she has decided to return to her alma mater and join us as an assistant professor of pediatric ophthalmology,” Dr. Haik said.

Professionally, Dr. Hoehn is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Association of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus.

Steven R. Sarkisian, Jr., MD:

 

Dr. Sarkisian is a graduate of the Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.  He completed his ophthalmology residency at the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center in 2003.  Dr. Sarkisian then came to Memphis for a fellowship in glaucoma at the University of Tennessee.

Dr. Haik stated, “We are very pleased that Dr. Sarkisian has chosen to remain in Memphis at the University of Tennessee where he will be an assistant professor of ophthalmology, specializing in glaucoma.”

Professionally, Dr. Sarkisian is a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the American Medical Association.

 

Melvin Litch, Jr., MD:

 

Dr. Melvin Litch, Jr., has recently joined the faculty of the University of Tennessee Department of Ophthalmology as a clinical assistant professor.

Dr. Haik said, “Dr. Litch comes to the faculty following a distinguished career in private practice as a well-respected ophthalmologist in Memphis. We are delighted he has decided to join our faculty. He will be a great asset to the ophthalmology program as he brings his experience to resident teaching as well as continuing to practice ophthalmology.”

 Dr. Litch graduated from the Duke University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Professionally, he is a member of the Tennessee Medical Association, the Memphis Medical Society, the Memphis Eye Society, and a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
