Open House Provides Opportunity to Explore Educational Programs

 in Health Care Professions

________________________________________________________________

February 16, 2007 (Memphis, Tenn.) – The College of Allied Health Sciences at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center is hosting an open house for prospective students from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday, February 23.  Located on the sixth floor of the 930 Madison Avenue building, the event will provide information to individuals interested in learning more about educational programs for careers in allied health.

Allied health professionals include:  cytotechnologists and medical technologists, who monitor clinical laboratory tests; health information management professionals, responsible for ensuring the confidentiality of patient records, as well as being kept abreast of reimbursement rules and regulations; physical and occupational therapists, who provide the majority of rehabilitation services; and dental hygienists who provide preventive and therapeutic services for the control of oral diseases.

During the open house, individuals will have the opportunity to talk with faculty and students, tour teaching labs, and meet with representatives from the financial aid and admissions departments.

For more information about a career in an allied health profession, visit the college’s website at: www.uthsc.edu/allied.  To RSVP for the open house or for more information, call (901) 448-5581 or e-mail ahcareers@uthsc.edu.  Parking is available in the garage adjacent to the 930 Madison Avenue building.  For complimentary parking, tickets must be validated during the open house.

As the flagship statewide academic health system, the University of Tennessee Health Science Center is focused on a four-tier mission of education, research, clinical care and public service, all in support of a single goal: to improve the health of Tennesseans.  Offering a broad range of postgraduate training opportunities, the main campus, which includes six colleges, is located in Memphis.  UTHSC has additional College of Medicine campus locations in Knoxville and Chattanooga.  For more information, visit www.uthsc.edu.
