PRESTIGIOUS HONOR BESTOWED UPON UTHSC PROFESSOR

 

            Memphis, Tennessee (Aug 7, 2005) – Peggy Ingram Veeser, EdD, APRN, professor at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) College of Nursing and director of the UTHSC University Health Services, has been inducted as a Fellow by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP). She is one of 23 new Fellows for 2005.

            A nurse practitioner is an advanced practice registered nurse, board certified (APRN, BC) who assumes an expanded role in providing patient care with an emphasis in specific areas of health promotion, illness prevention, and health restoration. The Fellows of the AANP (FAANP) program was established in 2000 to recognize those nurse practitioners who have gone above and beyond in their practice, education and research, as well as those who have facilitated leadership within the profession. A hallmark of a Fellow is to mentor and develop leadership programs for other nurse practitioners.

            After receiving her BSN in nursing from Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tenn., Dr. Veeser earned her nurse practitioner’s certificate at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville. She later completed her master’s degree at UTHSC College of Nursing and earned her doctorate in higher education at the University of Memphis. She is also a Fellow of the American College Health Association.  She has been a practicing family nurse practitioner for over 30 years.
