Information Technology Services is always working on multiple projects that help advance the missions of the university. This list reflects the major projects we recently completed, currently are working on, and are planning for the near future and the tangible benefits of each for our customers. iStart (Sunapsis international population management system): Phase II Spring 2014 Provides online access for sponsoring departments and international scholars to complete necessary paperwork
T2 eBiz Touchnet Credit Card Payment Gateway Spring 2014 Allows customers to pay UTHSC parking citations online via credit card
Banner/T2 Flex interface Spring 2014 Allows students to pay UTHSC parking citations in Banner student information system (marks citation as “Paid” in the Parking Services system)
Blackboard-Banner integration Fall 2014 Reduces manual administration of Blackboard system and increases data integrity by automating user account creation, course creation, and course enrollment

Internet bandwidth increase to 200 Mb/sec July 2013 Allows more internet traffic while reducing internet slowdowns and “bottlenecks”
Dental implant inventory July 2013 Provides real-time inventory of dental implants used in dental practices’ patient visits
Selection of campus-wide curriculum mapping software (in conjunction with colleges) August 2013 Provides an application that meets the vast majority of all colleges’ curriculum mapping needs and also is technically robust, secure, scalable, and supportable
Work permit expiration notification August 2013 Automatically notifies an employee by email of an expiring work permit prior to expiration
MediaSite server upgrade August 2013 Increases functionality and storage space for archived lectures
Qualtrics survey tool September 2013 Expands campus’s survey functionality to an enterprise level, including ability to create secure surveys that collect protected health information; saves the university money by replacing university’s CoursEval and Survey Monkey tools
New IT security training September 2013 Ensures compliance with the March 2013 federal Omnibus Bill, which takes effect September 2013
Surplus property exchange system September 2013 (rollout date unknown) Facilitates utilization of non-surplused UTHSC items and direct exchange of surplus UT assets; frees up space in departments; eliminates need to move surplus items more than once; reduces amount of inventory warehoused in the Surplus department
Expanded user support for Nolij document management system October 2013 Provides additional support and training as well as more detailed web documentation for users interested in implementing online document management services for their offices/departments
ME mobile application: Phase 1 October 2013 Makes university information more easily accessible via smartphones and tablets
Online news portal November 2013 Provides central space for university news stories; facilitates more efficient story editing and publishing for Communications and Marketing (NOTE: ITS Web Services will continue to create and maintain page designs/templates and monitor pages for appropriate formatting.)
Vantage Point Logistics inbound freight savings data feed November 2013 Will save the university approximately $100,000 annually on shipping costs
Interview scheduler tool December 2013 Reduces the manual overhead associated with scheduling applicant interviews
Sophos antivirus implementation January 2014 Provides more robust antivirus protection for campus computers than previous solution (Microsoft Forefront)
Health Career Programs (HCP) online application system January 2014 Allows applicants to apply online to UTHSC’s Summer Science Institute, Summer Research Scholars, and TN Institutes for Pre-Professionals programs; facilitates reporting needed for program tracking and funding (NOTE: 4 programs have been completed, 1 is remaining.)
e2Campus/UTHSC Alert automatic user subscription and rebranding February 2014 Ensures that all current UTHSC members receive emergency alerts sent by Campus Police via their UTHSC email addresses; simplifies the process of subscribing additional email addresses and phone/pager numbers for both UTHSC members and non-members; rebrands the system with a more UTHSC-centric name and logo
iStart (Sunapsis international population management system) February 2014 Provides online access for international population to necessary paperwork; increases productivity and management functionality for UTHSC Office of International Affairs staff
Physician Assistant program classroom/teaching lab renovation (final room) February 2014 Updates and enhances room's teaching and communication tools

Point and Click electronic health record system: Addition of Student Academic Support Services (SASS) March 2014 Provides secure electronic storage and role-based access to students’ SASS records; facilitates secure collaboration between SASS and University Health Services (if required and authorized); and enables students to make and modify SASS appointments and securely communicate with counselors online (to be implemented in near future)

Banner XE upgrade Provides a more user-friendly interface as well as added flexibility and functionality to the student information system
Baptist student services Facilitates the extension of UTHSC’s UHS and food services to students of Baptist College of Health Sciences
Central data storage/backup Secures data, facilitates data sharing/collaboration, and reduces resources needed to support computing devices
Disaster recovery/business continuity plan Facilitates continued operation of the university following a disaster by ensuring that UTHSC data is preserved and accessible and a plan is in place to direct the appropriate people to take the proper actions after an event occurs
Electronic health record system implementation in UTHSC Audiology and Speech Pathology clinics Eliminates paper charting; facilitates secure collection, maintenance, sharing, and control of electronic patient data, in compliance with applicable regulations (including Meaningful Use); enhances stakeholder communication and patient satisfaction; and offers access to patient records at the point of care
Email encryption Provides an easy way within the Outlook email interface to secure protected health information and other sensitive or confidential data being transmitted via UTHSC email
Installation of technology at teaching space in Nashville, TN Prepares the space for classes to start in that location in Fall 2014 (per plan approval by the Chancellor)
IP address management system Eliminates need to register computing devices the first time user connects to UTHSC network; reduces network connectivity issues
IT service catalog Provides a categorized web listing of all services that Information Technology Services delivers, with a brief user-friendly description and other pertinent information (ex., cost, availability, how to get started, etc.) for customers
Migration of UTHSC email to Office 365 cloud solution Increases individual email quota to 25GB
Migration to Voice-over-IP (VoIP) telephones Saves money in the long run by reducing resources needed to support telecommunications and per-call costs; increases functionality (ex., expanded conference call capabilities)
Non-UTHSC patron database Tracks library usage and speeds processing of non-UTHSC patron transactions
Project and process management Formalizes and standardizes the management of projects to achieve more positive outcomes; formally documents ITS policies and procedures to ensure consistency of operations
Security information and event management system Increases the security of UTHSC data and computing resources by providing real-time analysis of IT security alerts and facilitates compliance to a number of regulations (ex., HIPAA) by logging security data and generating security reports
Sophos hard drive encryption Provides HIPAA-compliant security for electronic data containing protected health information; prevents access to data on lost or stolen computing devices
Transition to new postdoctoral position tracking application Preserves data in existing postdoctoral application for viewing and reporting purposes as the office transitions to use of the Taleo human resources system for management of postdoctoral applicant information
Tutoring management system Streamlines tutoring administration (ex., usage tracking, payroll and other reports, session sign-ups, etc.) and enables students to sign up for sessions online
