Information Technology Services is always working on multiple projects that help advance the missions of the university. This list reflects the major projects we recently completed, currently are working on, and are planning for the near future and the tangible benefits of each for our customers. Return to this list periodically to see the exciting things we are doing to enhance your teaching, learning, research, and clinical practice!

UTHSC website redesign: Phase I December 2014 Modernizes the UTHSC website to meet or exceed standards set by other medical colleges/universities as well as the expectations of incoming students (NOTE: Project output will be a proposed home page redesign and supporting page templates, not the actual redesign itself)
Web content management system (OU Campus) December 2014 Increases the accuracy of web content and the productivity of the Web Services team by distributing web content editing duties to content owners
one45 curriculum-mapping software January 2015 Provides customized setup and training as well as ongoing support for each college that chooses to use one45
Tax form processing in Banner January 2015 Provides students with a more convenient and efficient way to access tax document
Windows 2003 Server operating system retirement January 2015 Maintains data and systems security by removing an operating system that Microsoft will stop supporting in July 2015
Encryption software (Trend Micro) February 2015 Protects UTHSC data during storage and sharing as well as in the case of computer theft or loss
Fitness Center management software implementation March 2015 Increases efficiency by reducing current manual processes for many aspects of recreation management (ex., patron check-in)
ITS Project Management Office implementation March 2015 Formalizes and standardizes the management of projects to achieve more positive, quantifiable outcomes; ensures the alignment of projects with the university’s strategic goals
Anatomical Bequest Program application redesign April 2015 Secures the program's data by rebuilding the application used to track bequests in a supported platform
Blackboard-Banner integration Summer 2015 Reduces manual administration of Blackboard system and increases data integrity by automating user account creation, course creation, and course enrollment

e2Campus/UTHSC Alert automatic user subscription and rebranding February 2014 Ensures that all current UTHSC members receive emergency alerts sent by Campus Police via their UTHSC email addresses; simplifies the process of subscribing additional email addresses and phone/pager numbers for both UTHSC members and non-members; rebrands the system with a more UTHSC-centric name and logo
iStart (Sunapsis international population management system): Phase I February 2014 Increases productivity and management functionality for UTHSC Office of International Affairs staff
ME mobile application: Phase 2 February 2014 Makes interactive campus map accessible via ME
Interactive campus map February 2014 Provides users with easy online access to information about campus buildings, parking lots/garages, and student computer labs/printing stations
Web content management system March 2014 Speeds publishing of content by allowing users to add and edit their own content on their web pages (NOTE: ITS Web Services will continue to create and maintain page designs/templates and monitor pages for appropriate formatting.)
Point and Click electronic health record system: Addition of Student Academic Support Services (SASS) March  2014 Provides secure electronic storage and role-based access to students' SASS records; facilitates secure collaboration between SASS and University Health Services (if required and authorized); and enables students to make and modify SASS appointments and securely communicate with counselors online (to be implemented in near future)
Campuswide phase-out of Windows XP operating system June 2014 Increases computer and network security by ensuring that university-owned  Windows computers are on a current, secure, and supported operating system
Office 365: Phase I July 2014 Provides Microsoft Office ProPlus to students at no cost to them
Installation of technology at teaching space in Nashville, TN July 2014 Prepares the space for classes to start in that location in Fall 2014
Email encryption Discontinued July 2014 Rollout was discontinued because proposed encryption solution would not work with all email sent from a UTHSC account.
TutorTrac tutoring management system August 2014 Streamlines tutoring administration (ex., usage tracking, payroll and other reports, etc.) and provides online session registration
Baptist student food services August 2014 Facilitates the extension of UTHSC's food services to students of Baptist College of Health Sciences
Annual planned income (API) application October 2014 Increases the real-time accuracy of the API data and reduces by more than 99% the manual effort needed to maintain and update it
2014 Fall Technology Fair November 4, 2014  Provides the campus with the opportunity to learn more about ITS projects and new technologies
 Technology for University Health Services (UHS) expansion November 2014 Facilitates expansion of UHS mission and scope
Network access control agent (NAC) replacement November 2014 Simplifies access to the UTHSC wireless network while retaining the same high level of user access and security by replacing the current NAC with the more robust and flexible Identity Services Engine (ISE) tool

Biomedical Informatics (BMI) virtual servers Facilitates BMI's i2b2 and Ariadne projects
College-specific transcript report Facilitates the automation of the degree audit process
CompCo billing system replacement Ensures continuing ability for ITS and other departments to audit and recover telecommunications and project charges (CompCo software to be retired by vendor in 2015)
Disaster recovery/business continuity plan Facilitates continued operation of the university following a disaster by ensuring that UTHSC data is preserved and accessible and a plan is in place to direct the appropriate people to take the proper actions after an event occurs
Electronic health record system implementation in UTHSC Audiology and Speech Pathology clinics Eliminates paper charting; facilitates secure collection, maintenance, sharing, and control of electronic patient data, in compliance with applicable regulations (including Meaningful Use); enhances stakeholder communication and patient satisfaction; and offers access to patient records at the point of care
Human Resources: Conversion of paper processes to electronic format Reduces the paperwork and inefficiency of the current educational assistance and beneficiary-designation processes by making them accessible via the web
iStart (Sunapsis international population management system): Phase II Provides online access for sponsoring departments and international scholars to complete necessary paperwork
IT service catalog Provides a categorized web listing of all services that Information Technology Services delivers, with a brief user-friendly description and other pertinent information (ex., cost, availability, how to get started, etc.) for customers
Merge clinical trial management system Facilitates the efficient tracking of clinical trial research data
Non-UTHSC patron tracking application Tracks library usage by non-UTHSC patrons and facilitates their check-in

Project and process management Formalizes and standardizes the management of projects to achieve more positive outcomes; formally documents ITS policies and procedures to ensure consistency of operations
Security information and event management system Increases the security of UTHSC data and computing resources by providing real-time analysis of IT security alerts and facilitates compliance to a number of regulations (ex., HIPAA) by logging security data and generating security reports
T2: Banner interface Allows students to pay UTHSC parking citations in Banner student information system (marks citation as "Paid" in the Parking Services system)
T2: eBiz Touchnet Credit Card Payment Gateway Allows customers to pay UTHSC parking citations online via credit card
Transition to new postdoctoral position tracking application Preserves data in existing postdoctoral application for viewing and reporting purposes as the office transitions to use of the Taleo human resources system for management of postdoctoral applicant information
Workflow to add licensure scores/results to Banner Consolidates data in the student information system of record and provides data to gauge the effectiveness of UTHSC in achieving the educational mission
