Zoom is a video conferencing communication platform available to all UTHSC faculty, staff, and students for high-quality real-time interaction from their computers and mobile devices. During Zoom meetings, presenters can share their PowerPoint presentations with audience members.
According to Microsoft 365, “Video conferencing software plays a critical role in bringing remote teams together. But that alone is not enough. During those online meetings, there is a powerful, onboarding tool that is genuinely keeping everyone on the same page – and that is sharing your screen.”
Zoom features include:
- Breakout Rooms
- Reactions
- Screen sharing
- Polling
- Annotation tools. If annotation is enabled, you can draw, type, or stamp on a shared screen or whiteboard as part of the lesson.
- In-meeting chat
- Nonverbal feedback
- Virtual backgrounds
Zoom is one of UTHSC's official web conferencing applications to host online meetings for UTHSC-related business and courses. Microsoft Teams is the other UTHSC official web conferencing application.

Zoom System Requirements
Don't Share Zoom Links in Public Places
People are looking to join and disrupt your Zoom sessions. How do they do it? They find your Zoom links posted on public places such as the Daily Digest, Twitter, and Facebook.
How do you avoid it? Don't post Zoom links on social media. Post an email address or form where people can request the Zoom link, then you can be a gatekeeper to your sessions.
