Description: The University of Tennessee Health Science Center (UTHSC) is seeking a candidate for the position of Associate Vice Chancellor for Research, Office of Sponsored Programs.

The Associate Vice Chancellor for Research (AVCR), Office of Sponsored Programs (OSP), provides leadership, support and strategic direction for all sponsored programs administration at UTHSC. This position is responsible for overseeing all aspects of proposal review and submission, negotiation of award terms and conditions, compliance with administrative and fiscal award terms, and identifying and resolving issues throughout the life-cycle of an award. The AVCR also oversees financial and non-financial award management; contract negotiations; sub-award management; export control, biosafety and COI compliance; effort certification; and A-122, A-133 and CFR compliance.
This position is responsible for staying up-to-date on, and responding to, changes in federal requirements, sponsor terms and conditions, shifting levels of funding, and the financial management of sponsored projects.
Essential functions and responsibilities:
1 Provide leadership, direction and management of all activities within the OSP
2 Develop policies and procedures for process improvements and reporting metrics
3 Review and approve documents requiring institutional/administrative approval, review and negotiate research contracts
4 Represent UTHSC to governmental, foundation, industry and other agencies
5 Provides guidance and training regarding OSP policies and procedures
6 Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum requirements: advanced degree (M.B.A., Ph.D., J.D., CPA); at least 5 years of experience in sponsored programs administration or equivalent field, preferably in an academic environment; strategic thinking skills; ability to manage multiple projects and initiatives; excellent communications and presentation skills; knowledge of and experience with a complex university culture and related expectations; strong collaborative skills in working with teams throughout organization.
