Current Research

We have two active research projects currently seeking participants.

Perception and Production
in Infants with Hearing Loss Study
Looking While Listening
Word Learning Study

The Infant Speech Perception & Production study seeks to understand the relationship between the speech sounds infants prefer to listen to and the syllables they produce during babbling, and if hearing loss affects these preferences. This research is funded by the National Institute on Deafness and Communication Disorders.

This study is currently seeking the following participants:

  • Infants with Hearing Loss ages 5 to 25 months
  • Infants with Normal Hearing and a History of Middle Ear Problems ages 5 to 15 months

Babies learn about their language well before they speak their language. Understanding how babies learn language requires an understanding of how they connect words with objects and actions. This study seeks to understand how babies link new words with new objects and how hearing loss affects the process.

This study is currently seeking the following participants:

  • Infants with Hearing Impairment
  • Infants with Normal Hearing ages 18 to 45 months
