Standard: $299 Dentist, $175 Auxiliary
Late (After Nov. 19th): $324 Dentist; $200 Auxiliary

All tuition and fees are due in full at the time of registration. Class space is limited; course registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration less than 10 business days prior to the course is subject to available space and a $25 late registration fee.

8 hours course credit. Tuition includes morning coffee and a group lunch.

Course Description

This course will give you a panoramic view on how to offer your patients the hottest technology trend in dentistry today. Learn how to successfully incorporate laser-assisted periodontal therapy and laser-assisted restorative and cosmetic dentistry into your practice. This one-day, intensive hands-on mentoring course provides an overview of laser integration in periodontal and restorative therapy.

The overall intent of this course is to give clinicians the knowledge and skills to practice periodontics, dental hygiene as well as restorative dentistry incorporating lasers.

During the course you will:

  • Learn how to use lasers as adjuncts to your current dental treatment
  • Learn scientific and clinical principles, and indications for laser treatment
  • Gain hands-on experience with wavelengths as: CO2 lasers, Diode, Er;Cr:YSGG (Waterlase) and Low Intensity Lasers
  • Get an overview of laser physics and general information about the technology (high intensity and low intensity lasers)
  • Learn related fees and insurance codes applicable for periodontal therapy
  • Raise patient awareness and treatment acceptance
  • Understand how lasers can increase production and profitability in your practice

About The Featured Speakers

Dr. Cesar Migliorati

Dr. Cesar Migliorati received a dental degree from the University of Sao Paulo (USP), Brazil in 1972 and a MS in Stomatology. He worked as a dentist in private practice and was a teacher at USP in the Stomatology Department. Between 1981 and 1984 he completed specialty training in Oral Medicine and a Master's Degree in Oral Biology at UC San Francisco (UCSF). In 1988 he obtained board certification in Oral Medicine. Dr. Migliorati has held teaching positions at University of Sao Paulo, University of California San Francisco, University of Florida, University of Zurich and Nova Southeastern University.

Dr. Migliorati has worked in Oral Medicine for the past 25 years in teaching, research and patient care. He was one of the pioneering professionals to work with patients suffering from oral manifestations of HIV/AIDS. He has also worked with patients with oral mucosal inflammatory diseases, oral infections, oral precancer and cancer and the oral complications of cancer therapy. His research in oral precancer and cancer, immunology, HIV infection and immunosuppression, oral mucositis and laser therapy is thought provoking.

He is a member of American Dental Association, American Academy of Oral Medicine and Multinational Association of Supportive Care in Cancer/International Society of Oral Oncology.

Dr. Migliorati's letter to the editor of the Journal of Clinical Oncology in 2003 was the first report in the medical literature of bisphosphonate osteonecrosis. He has published extensively in medical and dental journals. One of his most recent manuscripts has been accepted for publication in the prestigious medical journal Nature Reviews Endocrinology.

Dr. Migliorati is currently a researcher and clinician working with the University of Tennessee Health Science Center College of Dentistry. He is a collaborator with UT Cancer Institute, the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital and Vanderbilt University. His goals include the establishment of oral medicine as an integral part of the UTCD curriculum and to create a clinic that will provide supportive care to patients with oral complications of cancer therapies.

Dr. Erica Migliorati

Erica Krohn Jany Migliorati graduated from the University of Sao Paulo (USP)-Dental School, Brazil in 1973. She received a Post-Graduate Degree in Periodontology from USP. She held teaching positions at the University of Sao Paulo, University of California San Francisco, University of Florida Gainesville, University of Zurich Switzerland and NOVA Southeastern University Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Dr. Erica Migliorati has worked in Periodontology for the last 30 years in all capacities including: teaching, research and patient care. Dr. E. Migliorati was one of the pioneers in the dental field in HIV infection and AIDS when working in San Francisco, California in the early 80s. Working as a member of different oncology teams she has also been involved in the periodontal treatment of patients with cancer, patients in need of bone marrow transplant and those affected by oral complications of cancer therapy.

As an associate in a dental laser clinic, Dr Erica Migliorati had the opportunity of developing skills in the field of lasers. Her clinical area of concentration is mainly the use of lasers as adjuncts to periodontal treatment but she is also trained in the use of laser light in other areas of dentistry, like implant treatment and restorative dentistry. Her research work included the use of the laser light as an adjunct to procedures performed in the oral cavity, HIV infection and immunosuppression.

As a speaker and lecturer Dr. Erica Migliorati has traveled this country as well as abroad to present her work in laser dentistry. She has spoken in countries like Japan, Greece, and Brazil among others.

Currently she is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Periodontology responsible for the course of Laser Dentistry at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center School of Dentistry, and a member of the American Dental Association, American Academy of Periodontology and the American Academy of Laser Dentistry.

Dr. Les H. Binkley, Jr. DDS, MS

A 1974 graduate of the University Of Tennessee College Of Dentistry continued his education at The Ohio State University in 1978 receiving Masters and Residency in Periodontology. He has been in full time private practice in Periodontics since 1978 as well as a part time .Assistant Professor in the periodontal program at UTHSC in Memphis. He conducts the surgery seminar for the Periodontal Graduate Program. He lectures in Periodontics nationally and internationally.

He uses diodes, Nd:YAG, and the ErCr:YGSS in his practice. In the graduate program he teaches the uses the CO2 in treatment of periodontal disease. He recently presented his research in Lasers in Periodontal Surgery at the Advance Laser Symposium. He teaches at the World Clinical Laser Institute and the Chen Laser Institute. He and other speakers will be presenting the use of Lasers in the practice of all areas of a general dentistry.
