Board of Trustees Meeting Results - June 2014

This week, at the UT Board of Trustees meeting the board approved several business matters for our organization. For students, we are pleased to report that there will be no tuition increases for existing UTHSC  programs for fiscal year 2015 (July 1, 2014 through June 30, 2015).

For the faculty and staff of UT systemwide, the state legislature did not provide an across-the-board, cost-of-living increase. However, it is important to remember that those who are selected for promotions, position reclassifications or bonuses based on exemplary performance or added duties will still be eligible for appropriate salary adjustments.

In the UTHSC College of Dentistry, we are adding a new Transitional DDS Program for dental professionals who are trained outside of the United States but who want to become certified to practice in this country. The board approved the tuition rate for this new program.

The Board of Trustees also approved a regional tuition discount program for College of Pharmacy students who reside within 50 miles of the city of Memphis. For these students, out-of -state tuition will be discounted by 75 percent.

In his report to the trustees, UT President Joe DiPietro took a stand, pledging to engage a coalition of resources to address the unsustainable equation of falling state funding for education and rising tuition. The UT Board also bestowed its highest honor on President Emeritus Joseph E. Johnson. Many thanks to each of you for your ongoing, consistent hard work on behalf of UTHSC.
