Why I chose UT-Jackson: It wasn’t until visiting Jackson that I realized this would be an excellent place to train and raise my young family. The Family Medicine program at UT Jackson was also the program that seemed to have the happiest and nicest residents I had the opportunity to interact with during my interview season. The reputation of the program as well as the opportunity to do an Emergency Medicine Fellowship were two of the most appealing things to me initially but as I learned more about the program and Jackson, it just seemed like the perfect place for me.

Matthew Wynne, M.D.

Hometown: Memphis, TN
Undergraduate: University of Memphis
Medical School: University of Tennessee Health Science Center, Memphis, TN
Stats: Married to my beautiful wife, Lesley. We have two children, Roman age 9 going on 40 and Jackson age 5 going on 3.

What I did before medical school: I worked in the family business, HOT Graphics and Printing, for 16 years. I also worked as an Attendant/Unit Secretary in the OR at LeBonheur Children’s Medical Center for 4 years.
Why I chose UT-Jackson: Lesley and I knew we wanted to stay close to Memphis and our family. After doing third and fourth year rotations in Jackson, I knew it was where I wanted to work during residency. I loved the hospital and all the residents seemed very well trained and happy. The unopposed program with the busiest ER in Tennessee was exactly what I wanted in a residency. I brought Lesley and the boys up for a week during my fourth year rotation and a weekend a few weeks later. They all loved the city and were eager to explore the possibility of living in Jackson. Once the family was on board, I knew Jackson was going to be my top choice.
